When it comes to fast food, McDonald’s is normally my go-to. I always order a McDouble with bacon and a six-piece chicken nugget with hot mustard, and it positively slaps each and every time.
Sadly, McDonald’s is not available via DoorDash, so this past Sunday, I decided to order from A&W for what I believe was the first time in my life, and I thought I would provide an honest review of my order.
I ordered the Papa Burger for Blaine, added cheese and bacon, and a side of French fries, and for myself, I decided to try the Teen Burger and a side of French fries. I really wasn’t sure of what to expect beforehand, but I was pleasantly surprised by the results.
Blaine and I agreed that A&W’s French fries are superior to McDonald’s. I’m sorry to anyone who takes offence to that, because plenty of people are avid lovers of McDonald’s fries. But, the reason we agreed A&W’s are better is because they’re thick-cut and have a lot more sustenance. They sort of reminded me of fries you might get from a chip wagon, if that makes sense.
As for the burger, McDonald’s McDouble beats out both A&W’s Paper Burger and Teen Burger. Were they bad? Not at all. But, I find McDonald’s hamburgers to have a better and beefier flavour than A&W’s, and the bun encompassing my Teen Burger was a little on the soggy side. I wasn’t a tremendous fan of the sauce on my burger, either.
To be fair, I think A&W is a little better known for their chicken as opposed ot their beef, but I could be entirely wrong. I would try something different from A&W, but I could happily enjoy their fries anytime.
Are you an A&W fan? If so, what’s your favourite item to order?

Interesting that A&W is still strong in North America! The Philippines used to have A&W, but it closed down in the early 2000s. Our Southeast Asian neighbors (Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore) have locations as of writing.

That is interesting! Thank you so much for reading and for telling about A&W’s across the world. 🙂
