McDonald’s Birthday Cake McFlurry: yay or nay?

I haven’t exactly kept my love for McDonald’s a secret here on my blog, and I’m certainly not going to pretend that I am not an avid fan. The only person I may make this exception for and lie about my McDonald’s preferences to is my mother, and I know she will read this, so I suppose the cat is well out of the bag – at this point, it’s halfway down the driveway.

I like McDonald’s McFlurries, but I don’t order them regularly. Every now and then, I will order a couple for Blaine and me, but there are other forms of ice cream I would prefer to eat, for example, a Dairy Queen Blizzard. But, I’m a sucker for birthday cake flavoured desserts, assuming they’re done well and don’t taste like children’s cough syrup. When I saw that a Birthday Cake McFlurry had been launched, I had to try it, and I finally got myself one to review for all of you.

McDonald’s website says: “The Birthday Cake McFlurry® is made with creamy vanilla soft serve and blended with frosted cake-flavoured confetti cookie dough pieces and birthday cake flavoured syrup.”

I did order the snack-sized version as opposed to the regular, larger size, in case I wasn’t a fan, and while I probably could have savoured the bigger one, I’m glad I didn’t because I may have triggered the onset of diabetes with the amount of sugar consumed. The snack size was more than enough, and it definitely satisfied my sweet tooth for the time being.

Overall, I would give the Birthday Cake McFlurry an 8/10. It was quite sweet, almost on the cusp of being too sweet, if that makes sense, but without that horrid awful backdoor birthday cake flavour I know you know I’m referring to if you’re a fan of birthday cake flavoured sweets. The chunks of cookie dough were delightful, and I probably would order another one. I’ve had better, but I’ve also absolutely had worse.
