My husband and I had a conversation a few days ago that inspired today’s post. We were chatting about how if either of us found ourselves out of work (which we both sincerely hope does not come to fruition), we would use the free time to learn something new, for example, a skill. We both agreed that if either of us found ourselves in a situation in which we suddenly had ample time, we would at least attempt to use that time to be productive in some sense.
Our discussion encouraged me to think about the idea of learning something new, and, in turn, how human beings are rather blessed in the sense that we can perpetually learn and educate ourselves throughout the duration of our lives. Nowadays, thanks to the internet, we have access to just about anything we could need (within reason) to learn a new skill, and I think it is incredible that we have the ability to learn as much as we please in our lives.
Consider YouTube, as an example. You can find a tutorial on YouTube for quite literally almost anything these days, ranging from how to change a tire on your vehicle to how to install tiling in a shower; granted, some things are best left to professionals if we aren’t entirely savvy with a particular skill or form of work, but the ability to learn anyways and at our own pace is something I would wager a lot of us take for granted.
Perhaps a lot of us figure that once we exceed a certain age, the window of opportunity to familiarize ourselves with something new has passed, but this simply is not true. Yes, there are certain skills that would arguably be more challenging to learn at a later age as opposed to a younger one, but that doesn’t mean we can’t try regardless. We can always continue to learn.
