I suppose I should stipulate that I’m rather passionate about the issue we will be discussing in this post because of my educational background. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Honours English as well as a post-graduate certification in public relations; if you aren’t able to deduce what I’m hinting at with my background, it’s the fact that I am a writer with a love for reading and writing.
ChatGBT, for anyone who is not familiar with it, is a website that uses artificial intelligence to answer quite literally any question you ask it. One might find this to be incredibly helpful, and it certainly can be; as opposed to doing a Google search for something and having to check a few sites to find what it is you’re looking for, ChatGBT scours the internet for you, providing you with the exact information it is you require.
For some things, ChatGBT can be a lifesaver. For others, though, its effects can be detrimental, and I think these detriments are going to present themselves in younger generations who are relying on ChatGBT to answer all of their homework and assignment questions, and even write the assignments in question for them.
Yes, you can ask ChatGBT to write you an essay on any topic, and it will. It’s alarming how skilled its writing is, and furthermore, how much it can make itself sound human. However, if we are using artificial intelligence for these purposes, you can bet that up-and-coming generations are going to become stupider and stupider, and I am not trying to be nasty when I make this observation – if anything, I think I’m being realistic. It isn’t just school work, either – I’m certain ChatGBT is being used in the workplace.
If we resort to artificial intelligence thinking for ourselves, what do we think is going to happen to our own cognitive abilities?
