Temu: Scam or success?

Temu and Shein are two companies that are often viewed with controversy regarding how they go about executing their business. Both brands are similar in what they stock and carry; however, Shein seems to place a heavier emphasis on clothing, whereas Temu seems to prioritize home items.

Despite their dominant area of goods, both Shein and Temu are sort of like Amazon in the sense that they both carry quite literally any item you can think of. Yes, Shein is more fashion-heavy, but they also sell home items, and while Temu carries more home items than clothing, they still offer a tremendous variety of all clothing styles.

Both brands can be perceived as one-stop shopping, I guess. Or, perhaps one-site shopping.

I’ve ordered more from Shein than I have from Temu, and I actually just placed my one and only Temu order back in the Spring. I was trying to figure out what to get my mom for Mother’s Day, and I decided to visit the Temu website on a whim and see what they had at the time.

I was quite impressed with the selection and the supposed quality of some of the items I looked at (I say supposed quality because that’s difficult to determine while looking at a computer screen), and upon ordering a few things for my mom, I was very happy with the quality when they did arrive. Everything I ordered, I received, and it came in a relatively timely manner, from what I can recall.

Both Temu and Shein are considered fast-fashion, something I don’t particularly enjoy supporting. I had heard all sorts of horror stories about Temu specifically, and people receiving the polar opposite of what they originally ordered, which is why I was curious to order something myself. My experience was error-free for what it is worth.
