Today marks day three of the plague, and if this shit doesn’t sort itself out sooner than later, I think I might have to see a doctor. I keep telling myself tomorrow will be better, only to be severely disappointed, and I don’t know how much more of this I can handle before I literally lose my mind. I am in so much pain and discomfort, and one of the worst elements of this whole virus is the fact that I am very hungry, but anything I eat or drink (including water) triggers some of the most painful abdominal cramps I have ever experienced.
I’ve been trying to consume what I can, and everything I have read online suggests abiding by the BRAT diet when you’re in the process of overcoming a stomach virus of any sort. The BRAT diet consists of very bland, gentle foods that won’t wreak havoc on your guts, and the acronym itself stands for bananas, rice, applesauce and toast.
Don’t get too excited with these very limited options, however, because both the rice and toast are to be consumed utterly plain. I can handle plain rice, but toast without even butter seems like a crime.
I’ve been researching other foods to try that won’t kill me, and some other suggestions that came up include saltine crackers, broth, eggs and lean protein. I’ve had more chicken noodle soup these past few days than I think I have in my entire life, and I’ve been throwing in some Premium Plus crackers to add some sustenance. I managed to keep down a couple of baked chicken tenders as well.
I’m drinking as much water with Pedialyte as I possibly can, and as much as it’s killing me, I haven’t had any coffee since I fell ill, because apparently that is a big no-no with stomach viruses.
