I have not hidden my love for the television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine from anyone here who reads my blog somewhat regularly, and for good reason; it is arguably one of the best shows I have ever seen, and I have lost count of how many times I have rewatched it. I consider it my comfort show, and I watch a few episodes every evening before I go to sleep.
The humour in this show is fucking excellent. It’s demented, goofy, ridiculous and witty, and Andy Samberg, who plays the main character in the series, Jake Peralta, is a damn national treasure. My love for him as an actor took root when I first watched the film Hot Rod, and to this day, it is one of my favourite movies.
For context, I think I first watched it 15 years ago.
For my fellow Brooklyn Nine-Nine lovers, I am terribly saddened to share with you that as of today, September 18, the show will no longer be available via Netflix. I have absolutely no idea why the show is being removed, because I am certain there are plenty of people, like myself, who watch it repeatedly, but when I first heard about this, you can bet your ass I was ready to riot.
I am sincerely hoping that the removal of the show from Netflix will be temporary or that another streaming platform will pick it up to make nuts like me happy once again. The only other show that even comes close in comparison to the humour depicted in Brooklyn Nine-Nine is The Office, and while The Office is also a television classic, my preference will always be with the ninety-ninth precinct. I can’t imagine a world in which I can’t witness Jake Peralta getting his arm stuck in a vending machine.
