I think I started writing a New Year highlights post a few years ago, and I figure I may as well stick with it. I’m a creature of habit, through and through, and while continuing with this trend helps satiate my constant urge to abide by routine, it also serves as a solid reminder for all of us to take pause and reflect on what stood out for us this past year, both the good and the bad.
I think it is far too easy to allow ourselves to be swept up in the chaos of New Year’s celebrations and fail to remember what transpired over the course of the year we are just ending. Life is short enough as it is, so taking the time here and there to contemplate the highs and lows of the previous calendar year isn’t a bad thing, nor is it terribly time-consuming. I encourage you to give yourself a few minutes to sit down and consider the past 365 days prior to diving headfirst into the upcoming ones, and I suspect you, like me, will recall moments you had completely forgotten about before taking the time to reflect.
Here are a few of my own 2025 highlights:
I celebrated three years of marriage with my husband, Blaine, in June.
I turned 30 in May.
My family and I worked hard to ensure the success of our farming operation.
My rugby team placed third overall in our division, which is the best our women’s team has done in the history of our club.
I won an award of tremendous honour at our year-end rugby banquet.
My sister and I went on a trip together.
I’m certain I’m missing a few, but these occurrences definitely stood out throughout 2025.
What are some of your 2025 highlights?
