I’ve had issues with iron in my body for most of my life. It’s always been on the lower end of the spectrum as opposed to the higher, and after getting some bloodwork done recently, I discovered that, currently, it’s lower than ever before. Rather than throwing back yet another drug, I wanted to see if I could find any luck with increasing my iron levels by using supplements, which I have done successfully in the past.
I did some research and decided to have a go at a very popular iron supplement that thousands of people swear by, claiming it is the one supplement they’ve found that honestly and noticeably increases iron levels in the body. It came relatively quickly, and I started taking it on Christmas Eve during the day.
A few days after taking it, I noticed my stomach was not terribly happy. For context, I suppose I should mention that I’ve had issues with digestion since I was 17, and I experience problems with my gut daily. However, after trying this supplement, I noticed that my issues were more evident and more severe than usual, and for a few days, I figured it was the result of eating some heavier and richer foods during the Holidays.
After about a week of no improvement, I figured it might be worthwhile to check some of the adverse effects of this supplement. Naturally, an upset stomach was cited, and despite taking the iron supplement with vitamin C, which is recommended to avoid stomach problems, I felt as though I was going to upchuck at any given moment and decided that the supplement and I simply were not vibing.
Upon some online investigation, I discovered that stomach issues and iron often coincide, and because I was unaware of this, I figured my experience might be helpful to someone else out there in the same boat.
