Self-pity: a suck’s crutch

If the title of today’s post seems a bit harsh, you’re probably not going to enjoy reading more about my own thoughts on the concept of self-pity, and that is okay. Feel free to spot the ‘x’ in the top corner of your chosen browser and continue on with your day. There is a reasonable probability that if today’s title does, indeed, offend you, you’re guilty of practicing self-pity.

There are few things in this world I detest more than self-pity, and I do have my reasons for feeling so strongly about this topic. I myself have dabbled in self-pity in my own life, and because I have come to the undeniable conclusion that it serves absolutely zero advantageous purposes, I despise it, and I’m not a huge fan of people who love to ruminate on their own problems and refrain from doing anything to resolve them.

Life is hard for most of us, and we are all carrying struggles and battles most folks are entirely unaware of. If something unfortunate has happened to you, I am sorry. But you’re certainly not special in your struggles, and you’re absolutely not the only person dealing with some shit.

If something unfortunate has plagued you in your life, there are various means of coping with the issue, for example, therapy, mindfulness and self-work. If you are someone who chooses not to attempt to better yourself and would prefer to be pitied, you’re selfish and extremely immature, especially emotionally.

The world we live in is supremely fucked up, and there will always be someone who has it worse than you do. Remember this, and be grateful for what blessings do exist in your life, and determine a means to fix the issue at hand. If that isn’t an option, reach out to someone who could aid you in your struggles, but do not wallow in your problems as if you’re special. It’s unbecoming.
