Following the conclusion of my desire to religiously watch Game of Thrones, I came to the realization that I had to find another series to begin watching in an attempt to distract me from my Game of Thrones deprivation.
I had heard about Schitt’s Creek from several friends and family members, and after being informed of how hysterical it apparently is, I decided I would give it a chance. I finished the first season rather quickly, and I can now attest to the fact that the show definitely is hilarious.
Schitt’s Creek is a Canadian television series created by Eugene Levy and his son, Dan Levy. Eugene and his son play significant characters in the series, with Eugene playing Johnny Rose and Dan playing David Rose, along with Catharine O’Hara playing Moira Rose, Johnny’s wife, and Annie Murphy playing Alexis, Johnny and Moira’s daughter. I can appreciate the fact that Eugene Levy and his son Dan play a father and son in the show, and their on-screen dynamic is truly hysterical.
The series depicts the Rose family, a once incredibly wealthy family who lost everything thanks to their business partner throwing them under the bus. They go from living a lavish lifestyle to living in a motel in a town referred to as Schitt’s Creek, the town being the only possession that was not possessed by the government (Johnny bought the town for his son as a joke for his birthday). The Rose’s are forced to adjust to a completely foreign lifestyle in an incredibly rural atmosphere, and their difficulty in adjusting to their new life is what makes the show absolutely hilarious.
The show features Canadian actors and is filmed in a small town in Ontario, details which I find appealing. I am enjoying the series so far, and I will provide further updates!
