I used to bite my nails to such a severe extent they would bleed. Despite the pain this resulted in and the rather horrid appearance of my fingers, I simply could not stop chewing my nails, no matter what I did.
Oddly enough, when I was in university, I woke up one day and decided I was going to leave my nails alone. I cannot pinpoint what exactly prompted the change in my behavior, but since that day I have refrained from chewing my nails, and they are now rather lovely in their appearance.
That being said, I do still pick at the dry skin surrounding my nails, and further my cuticles. My mom gave me the Burt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream to try, and my God this stuff works.
According to its description on their website, this cuticle cream moisturizes and softens dry cuticles with almond oil, cocoa seed butter, Vitamin E and sunflower oil. The product contains 100% natural ingredients, and it can be used on both fingers and toes my massaging the cream into the nails and the cuticles.
This product is available for purchase at Walmart for only $8.00, and in my opinion, it is absolutely worth the money. A little goes a long way with this product, and I find that it works best when applied to cuticles that are softened from hot water, for example after a shower. I typically apply this product to my fingernails before bed because the consistency can be a tad messy, and although I have not found that it stains my bedding, gloves would be a way to prevent any staining from occurring.
If you suffer from dry cuticles, this product is a lifesaver. I highly recommend it, and quite honestly, looking back, I don’t know why I waited so long to try it out.
