I am sure you’re all aware by now of my food intolerances, but in case you’ve forgotten (which I doubt you have), I am intolerant to gluten, dairy, and egg. These intolerances can make eating protein quite tricky since many processed meats contain additives and filler, for example, gluten, therefore when I come across something that is plant-based protein and tastes scrumptious, I want to talk about it.
I tried Oh Naturel! Black Bean Bites a couple of weeks ago after I saw them at my local Sobey’s store. They contain water, black beans, expeller pressed sunflower oil and/or canola oil, pea protein, dehydrated black beans, corn, long grain brown rice, onion, tomato paste, spice, evaporated cane syrup, green bell peppers, red bell peppers, cellulose gum, onion powder, garlic powder, yeast extract, lime juice concentrate, sea salt, flavour, potato starch, sesame.
I know it seems as though listing all of the ingredients in this product is unnecessary, but for those of us who actually have to read food labels, this comes in handy.
The Black Bean bites are free of gluten, dairy, and egg, and they retail for roughly $11.00 a bag. The recommended serving is four bites, however, I typically double this portion because I have a solid appetite, and they are absolutely delicious and further filling. They pair well with pasta, rice, potatoes, and on a sandwich, and their versatility is something I tremendously appreciate.
Oh Naturel! also makes garden vegetable bites, which I have not tried, and quinoa mushroom burgers. I have tried their burgers and am personally not a big fan, but their black bean bites compensate for this. I am not even exaggerating in saying how tasty they are.
I am not vegetarian nor am I vegan, but these bites are just as tasty to me as chicken or beef any day. Give them a try and let me know your thoughts!
