Profile: Sophie Turner

I’m a pretty big fan of Sophie Turner, and I imagine many other folks are as well. Likely because she seems pretty cool as a person, and she’s a wicked actress.

Born on Feb. 21, 1996 in Northampton, England, Turner is the daughter of a nursery school teacher (her mother, Sally), and a pallet distribution company employee (her father, Andrew). She has two older brothers, and supposedly had a twin who passed away before birth. Turner moved to Chesterton when she was a mere two years of age, attending both Warwick Prep School and The King’s High School for Girls.

Turner was only 14 when she snagged the role of Sansa Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, and she was tutored on the Thrones set until she was 16. The role of Sansa was her first television acting job, and her drama tutor actually encouraged her to try out for the part.

She has appeared in several films to date, though her appearance in the X-Men franchise (X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Pheonix) is arguably her most well-known film role.

Turner is currently engaged to Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers band. They started dating in 2016 and announced their engagement the following year.

While I was researching this phenomenal woman, I was saddened to discover that this month she made a statement that she is taking a break from acting to address her mental health. Turner suffers from depression as a result of harsh criticism of her work as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, and while Sansa isn’t necessarily my favourite character in the series, I think Turner does a damn good job of playing her.

If you’re not following Turner on Instagram, I highly encourage you to do so. She often posts stories in which she shares gossip, or “tea,” and her commentary is hilarious.
