It’s been a little while since I’ve watched and reviewed a horror movie. To be honest, I’ve gotten kind of tired of Netflix’s scary movie options as I’ve seen a lot of them, and I’m also a little tired of tuning into one that is seemingly terrifying only to be left disappointed and wanting more in terms of being scared.
If I’m gonna watch a horror movie, you best believe I want to be absolutely terrified.
I noticed the other night that a movie called Dead Silence (2007) was trending on Netflix, and after watching the trailer and reading some reviews, I decided to give it a watch.
Dead Silence stars Ryan Kwanten as Jamie, Laura Regan as his wife, Lisa, Donnie Whalberg as Deputy Lipton, Bob Gunton as Edward, Jamie’s father, Amber Valletta as Ella, his wife and Jamie’s step-mother, and Judith Anna Roberts as Mary Shaw. The film begins by depicting Jamie and Lisa as happy newlyweds in their apartment, and upon hearing the doorbell ring, Jamie discovers a large package containing a ventriloquist doll named Billy that has been sent to him anonymously. Jamie leaves shortly after opening the package to get some dinner for him and Lisa, and when he returns, he finds his wife murdered and suspects it has something to do with the doll.
The plot of this movie is about as ridiculous as it sounds, but the movie itself is pretty creepy. It certainly isn’t one of the scariest movies I’ve seen, but the concept of dolls being cursed and coming alive to kill people is pretty freaky, I’ll admit.
There are plenty of plot twists throughout this film, with a major one at the end, and small intricacies woven into the story definitely help to build suspense. Needless to say, if you’re not a fan of dolls, you definitely won’t be after watching Dead Silence.
