As you likely know if you’ve been following my blog at all, I thoroughly enjoy watching scary movies. Whether they’re technically a scary film, a horror film, or a thriller, depending on their genre categorization, I’m a sick bastard and like having the shit scared out of me. You’ve gotta feel alive every now and then, ya know?
If you’re a sicko like me and enjoy watching these sorts of movies, then buckle up, ladies and gents; the movie I’m going to discuss with you momentarily is no exception to the scary film genre.
Blaine and I watched Alone via Netflix a couple of nights ago, and this movie seriously scared me. I can’t recall the last time I was truly freaked out from a movie I watched (with the exception of The Conjuring and Hereditary because these movies are positively fucked), but Alone really got to me, arguably because of the subject matter the plot revolves around; any woman’s worst nightmare.
This movie “is a 2020 American thriller film directed by John Hyams, from a screenplay by Mattias Olsson. The film stars Jules Willcox as a young woman who desperately tries to escape a homicidal stalker (Marc Menchaca) in the wilderness. It was released in the United States on September 18, 2020, by Magnet Releasing,” explains the film’s Wikipedia Page. I had never heard of Jules Willcox or Marc Menchaca prior to seeing this movie, but the two of them deliver an exceptional performance, especially Willcox.
I don’t want to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t seen it and would like to, but you can likely figure out why this movie is so terrifying; this is a situation many women fear, and it is all too possible for it to happen. This movie was very well made, but it certainly depicts a sensitive and potentially triggering topic. It is disturbing but also very good, and while it may be a paradox in this regard, I do recommend watching it if you enjoy thrillers.
