Is Domino’s Pizza worth the hype?

This past weekend, my family and I ordered takeout from Domino’s Pizza. My sister and I have had Domino’s ourselves a few times, but my parents had never eaten anything from Domino’s before, and after a rather hectic weekend, we figured it would be a good choice for a simple and fuss-free dinner.

I was kind of curious to hear my parents’ thoughts towards their pizza, considering I’ve never found Domino’s to be anything special.

Because I’m not a huge fan of their pizza, I ordered a pasta dish. My sister, mom and dad all ordered pizzas, and we also grabbed a couple of orders of their specialty chicken bites.

I went with the build-your-own route in regards to my pasta. My dish consisted of penne, onions, grilled chicken, and cheddar cheese, and it was quite tasty. The onions seemed to be chopped rather haphazardly, though, and there were literal chunks of it throughout my pasta. I love onion, so I really didn’t mind, but for anyone who doesn’t enjoy an overwhelming onion taste, this may have been an issue.

My mom enjoyed her pizza, which had grilled chicken, spinach and mozzarella cheese, as did my sister, her pizza being the classic pepperoni and cheese. My sister’s pizza was a bit overcooked, though, with a few slices being borderline burnt.

My dad ordered a Philly cheesesteak pizza. He said it was pretty good but he likely wouldn’t order it again. I tried a slice and thought it was decent, but I think Philly cheesesteak is likely best served in its original form, which is on a sandwich.

The specialty chicken bites were arguably the tastiest item out of everything we ordered.

I don’t think my parents will order pizza from Domino’s again. The food wasn’t bad by any means, but it wasn’t great, and considering the price paid for the food, we all agreed it could have been better.

  1. Interesting piece! Domino’s Pizza ranks third behind Pizza Hut and Shakey’s here in the Philippines, and I would definitely agree with you that its dishes could still be improved.

I ordered the Carbonara Pizza from the joint last year and, while it was satisfying, I found it rather lacking. The desserts are noteworthy, though.

    1. That’s interesting! Thank you for sharing that with me. Personally, I find Pizza Hut to be the best overall. I’ll keep in mind that Domino’s desserts are worth trying, though! Thank you for reading. 🙂
