I’ve been told a few times in my life that I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I think this is a good attribute to possess, within reason. This idiom usually refers to someone who is quite open in terms of their emotions and vulnerability, and while the majority of folks wouldn’t take advantage of this, sadly, enough do, which is a testament to how absolutely terrible some people are.
The reason I say wearing your heart on your sleeve is a positive characteristic to a point is because there are shitty people who will take this for granted, and further, there are some people who have the emotional empathy of a breadcrumb and therefore will never reciprocate to you the genuineness you exhibit towards them. This, my friends, is a harsh realization a lot of us, unfortunately, experience at some point in life, said realization being that some people really just don’t give a fuck about anyone or anything but themselves.
It’s arguable we all know people like this, whether we want to admit it or not. And personally, I find it extremely frustrating how some people can go about their lives with absolutely no regard for others and somehow still live a decent life and be accepted by others. It’s baffling, really, and it makes me rather irritated, if I’m being honest.
Life is unfair for a multitude of reasons, but a big reason, in my opinion, is seeing people thrive who just don’t deserve to because of how they treat others. How can one be such a shit human being and still have so many positives in their life? I really don’t know, but if I ever get up to the pearly gates one day, I would like to ask the Big Man himself and see what he has to say.
