This past weekend, my family and I ventured down to Niagara, my old stomping grounds, for my cousin’s wedding.
I say stomping grounds not because I ever officially lived in Niagara, but because I did five years of schooling in the region and lived in student housing.
My sister and I are bridesmaids for my cousin, as she was a bridesmaid for me at my own wedding, and on Friday evening, myself, my sister and the rest of the wedding party dined at Casa Mia Ristorante and Bar in Niagara for the rehearsal dinner.
I had heard of Casa Mia, likely because the owners are friends with my aunt and uncle, but I had never actually had the opportunity to dine there until this rehearsal dinner, so I was looking forward to giving it a try.
According to the restaurant’s website, the establishment is family owned and operated and first opened back in 1974. Casa Mia was also recently given the title of the Best Dining Experience in Niagara, so to say I was excited to try some grub is an understatement. Naturally, I did peep at the menu prior to going just to see what sorts of goodies I could get my hands on, and while the menu is small, there is a good selection.
I was salivating reading about some of their dishes, specifically their pasta dish with black truffle.
Regarding the inspiration for Casa Mia’s dishes, the following excerpt comes from their website:
Aurgula, Asiago, Fiorentina, Gargonzolla, Napolitana and Pomodoro typify the exotic terminology which presents the Casa Mia Fare in such exceptional style. Quite simple; the entire menu is a signature. The Wine Cellar is an attraction in itself and features floor to ceiling racks which showcase some over 700 labels – many of them rare and collectible. Dominic Mollica, who heads the front of the house, sets the standards which assure the exemplary service the Casa Mia proffers.”
Not a big deal or anything.
If you ever have a chance to dine here, do yourself a favour and do so.
