Steamed dumplings have held their place close to my heart for quite a few years now. If I remember correctly, I believe the first time I ever sampled steamed dumplings was at The Mandarin, a well-known buffet-style restaurant here in Ontario, Canada. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t tried steamed dumplings sooner considering their phenomenal, dynamic and insanely fresh flavours, and I’ve been enjoying them ever since.
Obviously, freshly steamed dumplings are better than frozen, but because I don’t exactly have constant access to the fresh version, I’m happy to settle with the frozen. When I visited Costco last, I spotted some in their freezers, and because they’re damn tasty, I thought I would tell you about them.
Bibigo’s steamed dumplings available at Costco are of the chicken and vegetable variety and they are positively scrumptious. They come in packs of six, and they’re incredibly easy to make. You cut the corner off of the bag the tray of dumplings is inside, pop it in the microwave for two to two-and-a-half minutes, let it cool, and they’re ready to eat.
One box contains six trays of dumplings, and it also contains a generous-sized portion of dipping sauce. I am not entirely sure as to what the actual title of the sauce is, but I think it’s similar to soy sauce, based on its flavour.
Personally, I don’t enjoy soy sauce; I’m sorry if I offend anyone with my cultural ignorance, but I actually enjoy eating these steamed dumplings with the tiniest bit of plum sauce. I have no idea if that’s considered disgusting to some, but I find it a delightfully sweet addition to the overall steamed dumpling experience.
These dumplings are quick, simple, relatively nutritious and fantastic. If you enjoy steamed dumplings as much as I do and you’re a Costco member, I absolutely recommend them.
Well I like dumplings, but I’ve never made them. Also it’s strange but I just have it once and I like them so much but I’ve never had them again.
