For anyone unfamiliar with the term breakfast bowl, not to fret; I’m not even necessarily sure this term exists, but it does now thanks to my own ingenuity.
A breakfast bowl is similar to a burrito bowl, but instead of containing ingredients commonly found within burritos, a breakfast bowl contains ingredients and food commonly associated with breakfast.
I’ve been enjoying my own version of a breakfast bowl for a while now, and I thought I would share it with all of you. It makes for a fantastic breakfast-for-dinner option.
For one person, you will need:
- Two eggs
- Three breakfast sausages or links, whatever the hell you want to call them
- One cup of hash browns
- Spices
- Cheese
- Hot sauce
Cook your eggs however you like them (I rotate between scrambled and over-easy), and while they’re cooking start preparing your hashbrowns and sausages. I use an air fryer to cook both of these ingredients, and you’re welcome to do the same if you have an air fryer. Otherwise, the stovetop and oven work just fine.
Once all of your ingredients are cooked, put them into a bowl, with your sausages cut up into small pieces. Add your spices (I use salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and Tajin), your cheese (I use cheddar) and your hot sauce, and mix everything up until it is all blended evenly and your cheese has had a chance to melt.
The beauty of breakfast bowls is they’re super flexible in regard to the ingredients required to prepare one. No breakfast sausage? No problem, use bacon. If you don’t like cheese or have problems ingesting it, just leave it out, and the same goes for the hot sauce and spices.
I top mine off with a healthy dollop of ketchup, but that also can be left out if you’re not a fan.
