Should you be using a water filter?

Water filters are important, sure, but up until recently, I can’t say I’ve devoted a tremendous amount of time to thinking about them and the benefits they offer. Since I was diagnosed with Lyme disease, however, the concept of water filtration and its importance has a lot more significance to me than it did, and to be honest, I probably should have been more attentive to the quality of water I am drinking before getting diagnosed.

As human beings, we’re something like 80 per cent water, so it makes sense to be mindful of the toxins and other harmful debris that can exist in water.

I recently purchased a Brita water bottle that comes equipped with a built-in filter from Amazon. I am enjoying my purchase thus far, and in case anyone else is interested in buying one of these, I thought I would share my honest thoughts.

The bottle I purchased is stainless steel and holds 32 ounces. It costs about $50, which, for a water bottle, is outrageous, to an extent; I would never pay this amount for a regular water bottle, but seeing as this one has a filter you insert directly into the straw, it somewhat justifies my purchase.

The filter the bottle came with lasts for about two months, and then it can be replaced with a new one, also available from Amazon. Personally, I prefer water bottles with straws, and the straw feature in this bottle isn’t plastic, but rather has a soft, rubber top so you don’t chip your jibs.

This guy has good reviews online, and there are other sizes available. If you’re someone who has to be mindful of environmental toxins for health reasons, and you drink a lot of water, this might be the water bottle for you, if you can get past the price tag.
