Prepare to be scared

While I recognize it technically isn’t yet spooky season, it isn’t terribly far off, and given this is my favourite time of year, you can bet your ass I’ll be getting a head start on all things Fall. With Fall naturally comes horror movies, you know, because once October is here spooky season will officially be underway, and since I happen to love scary movies, I thought we could start the conversation a wee bit ahead of schedule.

I honestly have no clue how many horror movies I’ve seen to date, but it’s a few, and the number will only increasingly grow, I hope. I’ve seen horror movies that have shaken me to my core, and I’ve also seen ones that are so bad they’re laughable. I’d like to direct your attention toward the ones that actually had me sweating, so let’s discuss a few, shall we?

The Witch: The amount of people who say this film is boring can’t really call themselves true horror fans, in my own opinion. The first time I watched The Witch, I didn’t think much of it. I watched it again about a year later and realized what a horror masterpiece this movie is, and while it is a slow burn to reach the climax, I think it is worth it.

The Blair Witch Project: This movie is one that I still think about quite often because it is so terrifying. It is simple and low-budget, and truly fucking nerve-wracking, and I vow to never camp in deep woods as a result of seeing this film.

Hereditary: Considering this is a newer horror film, I was shocked at how deeply disturbing it really is. I’ve seen it twice, and watching it the second time was just as scary as the first, to be honest. I’ll never see piano wire the same.

Apostle: This one isn’t nearly as popular as some of the other movies on this list, but it’s chilling, and if you haven’t seen it, I absolutely recommend it.

  1. I love spooky season, especially scary movies! Blair Witch is always a favorite of mine. I have seen a few people mention Hereditary being a good movie, so I’ll check that out. Enjoy the season. 🎃

    1. I absolutely recommend Hereditary, but it is graphic – just a heads up!! It is sincerely scary, not just gore. If you liked Blair Witch I think you will enjoy it. 🙂 Thank you kindly for reading, and I hope you enjoy the spooky season, too!
