On our way home from The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto a few days ago, my family and I found ourselves getting a wee bit hungry. My dad mentioned earlier on in the day that he had a place in mind for a dinner spot, although he was being a bit secretive about it, and once we arrived, I understood his discretion; he and my mom have been to Jake’s Grill and Oyster House in Burlington, Ontario, a few times themselves, and they had been talking about wanting to bring my sister and me along at some point.
Our travels home from Toronto served as the perfect opportunity to visit Jake’s once again on my parent’s behalf, and for the first time for my sister and me.
Jake’s has been serving folks incredible food for over 35 years now, and if you haven’t been there yourself, I absolutely recommend going, regardless if you’re a seafood lover. Granted, if you enjoy seafood, you’re going to get your fill, but Jake’s menu does offer several options that are not affiliated with any sort of fish. My sister isn’t a fan of seafood and she opted for their burger, and she remarked it was delicious.
Jake’s has a wood-fire grill and offers market fresh oysters from both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. My dad loves oysters, so yes, he did order some, and he was kind enough to share some with me – I’m not sure if I have ever had fresher oysters in my life.
I ended up ordering the seafood linguine which was divine, and my mom opted for pan-seared pickerel and roasted potatoes. My sister was happy with her burger, and my dad had oysters, chowder and a lobster roll, all of which he said were great.
If you haven’t been to Jake’s, this is your sign to visit sooner than later.
