I have been out of a formal working environment for a few years now, but I absolutely can recall some of the stresses that presented themselves when I was working as a reporter. Between deadlines, word counts, interviews, editing and organizing drafts, things got a bit hairy for me occasionally, despite my best efforts to plan and organize my time as efficiently as possible.
Now, I’m working on my family’s farm and providing English tutoring for a handful of folks, so my work setting is looking a little different than it once did.
I realize the responsibilities I mentioned above are relatively specific to occupations in the writing and journalism realm, but the majority of jobs have similar characteristics in regard to time constraints, etc., and the majority of jobs have stresses associated with them in their specific forms.
Getting stuck working late isn’t an ideal situation for most of us, however, I imagine it is an occurrence that is applicable to more of us than less. Obviously, unexpected events transpire from time to time that hinder our productivity and, as a result, lead to us putting in more hours after the work day is done, but with these exceptions aside, staying late at work isn’t something I imagine most of us long for after our shift has concluded.
In an attempt to assist anyone who finds themselves at the office more than they do at home, I thought I would share the following information with all of you. These are some tips and suggestions for being as efficient and productive as possible during work to avoid putting in extra hours that exceed your traditional working day. Some may apply and others may not, but take a look at these recommendations to determine how to get the most productivity out of your work day as possible.
“Make sure the internet isn’t slowing you down
It can be very frustrating when the internet slows you down. Instead, it makes sense to use torrents so that things can be seamless and quick. Getting the best torrent client for mac will enable you to share large files without extensive waits. You can speed up your work tasks and be sure to stay on track so that you never need to stay late. You never need to worry about staying late due to slow download speeds again!
Make a plan and prioritize your tasks
If your boss is one of those difficult people in the workplace, be sure that you can show that you have made a plan and always work to complete every task. Then, they can’t argue with you. First, write a to-do list and schedule for the day. Allocate blocks of time for focused work on your daily tasks.
Establish your boundaries
One factor that makes one person more adaptable to others is knowing how to handle people and situations. In handling people, it must come from your heart. You cannot fake or lie to others. You must be true to yourself, because that is what makes us beings. We do not have to hurt others to say what we want. You just have to be very honest with others and considerate enough.
Delegate and collaborate
Recognize the instinct to want to do everything yourself, but you really must let others lend a hand or take the reins on a to-do when it makes sense. Make sure you know what you can and cannot do, and delegate effectively to others. Delegation will allow you to manage your time more effectively. Foster a team environment where colleagues are comfortable coming to each other for help when it is most efficient and beneficial.
Streamline your work processes
Look for inefficiencies and bottlenecks in your work processes and think of ways to streamline and optimize them. Automate as many repetitive tasks as you can with productivity tools and software, and create clear workflows so you minimize manual effort. The more you can streamline and automate your work processes, the quicker you will be able to complete tasks, which will reduce your need to work overtime.
Learn to refuse
Trust us, saying yes to everything will take you nowhere. Directly tell people who used to blame you every time to buzz off. You are a sovereign entity. You know how to do your things.
Have no distractions
Creating a distraction-free work environment can help you focus and be more productive. Turn off distractions before you settle down to work. Shut down extra browser tabs, silence your phone, and turn off notifications that aren’t essential. Let colleagues know you’re working on a tight deadline, schedule a specific time to talk, and keep the conversation focused.”
