Let’s challenge our creativity

Once again, when I sat down to write today’s post, I found myself absolutely hitting a wall, and a firm one at that, in the context of trying to determine a topic to write about. Some days, an idea comes to mind before I even sit down to write a post; other days, I will quite literally stare at a blank page on my laptop, frustration increasing all the while.

My mind wandered toward discussing something about creativity, and I had an idea. I’m not sure if this is already a thing (possibly acrostic writing?), and if it is, I do apologize for not being familiar with the proper terminology. The idea is to challenge me, and in turn, you, in a creative sense, and attempt to write either poetry or prose relying on the alphabet. I thought it might be interesting to try and write something using the letters of the alphabet as a prompt for each new sentence, so feel free to stick around and try it out with me.

A s I trodded down the

C aught by the corner of a crescent moon.

D aring and bold in the

E vening sky, it

F altered in and out, behind clouds,

G leaming and

H overing above me like a beacon.

I felt comforted by the eerie glow – it was

J ust enough to illuminate the path before me,

K indly leading me along with its

L ight. I could hear

M orning doves in the distance, their crooning

N ot so subtle in the

O pen air, and

P erhaps an owl, too. It was

Q uite late. Or, perhaps early; the

R eddish glow of the horizon ahead

S uggesting morning.

T histles snagged the

U nderside of my coat sleeves, and I could see

V iolets ahead, sprinkled along the sides of the

W ide path I strode upon, illuminated by moonlight. Ahead in the darkness, eyes met my own, and I came upon a Buck with an

X -ray gaze. Not wanting to scare it, I raised my voice and

Y elled towards it. It spooked, and I watched it fade as it

Z igged and zagged across the meadow.

Give it a try yourself and see how you do.
