When it comes to dinner prep in our home, I could certainly improve. I try my best to give some thought well in advance to what I will be making for dinner on a given evening, and although I’ve compiled a series of notes in my head, I often forget to actually follow-up on these notes physically and end up leaving my future self a lot of frustration when I realize I did not, in fact, take out the chicken to thaw.
We’ve had some interesting evenings, that’s for sure.
Recently, I took out some ground beef to thaw (applause for remembering for once, please), but I wasn’t entirely sure of what I was going to make with it. I considered burgers, but then I had an idea – why not try and make some chilli cheese fries?
I didn’t use or have a recipe, so the following is my own, but the dish turned out to be damn tasty, if that’s any consolation.
Lauren’s chilli cheese fries
You will need (to serve two people)
- One tbsp of cooking oil, whatever your preference
- 1/2 pound of thawed ground beef
- One bag of french fries (obviously size varies, so try and eyeball enough for two people)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- One tbsp of garlic powder
- One tbsp of onion powder
- One tbsp of paprika
- One tbsp of taco seasoning or chilli powder
- 1/2 tbsp of Montreal steak spice
- 1/2 tbsp of Italian herb mix
- Two tbsp of worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup of Cheese Whiz
Start by warming your oil in a frying pan, then add your ground beef. Let it begin cooking on medium heat, and while it gets going, cook your fries however you desire (I used my air fryer).
Next, once your fries are cooking, add all of your spices and your worcestershire sauce to your beef and mix everything together thoroughly. Continue cooking on medium heat until you can’t see anymore pink in the beef.
Lastly, turn your heat down to low and mix in your Cheese Whiz until it’s melted. Your fries should be done by now, so throw some on a plate and top with your beef mixture. Voila! You’ve made yourself some chilli cheese fries.
