I don’t visit the Keg too often – normally only for special occasions and celebrations, not so much for casual dining. Blaine and I recently went to The Keg to celebrate our wedding anniversary that recently passed, and like any other time I dine at The Keg, I thoroughly enjoyed their mashed potatoes.
Weirdly, I’m not even that huge of a fan of mashed potatoes. Don’t get me wrong, they’re delicious, but I mainly only enjoy them when we have family dinners at Christmastime and Easter. I much prefer classic French fries over mashed potatoes any day of the week, and if I had to choose one carb that reigns supreme, it would have to be pasta. However, when it comes to the mashed potatoes from The Keg, I will happily devour them any opportunity I have, and visiting for our anniversary was no exception.
Considering how damn delicious these mashed potatoes are, I was contemplating how wonderful it would be to be able to enjoy them at home and decided to hunt down a recipe. This particular one comes from thestayathomechef.com.
Steakhouse Style Garlic Mashed Potatoes
“Ingredients
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 5 pounds red potatoes unpeeled
- 5 cloves garlic whole
- ½ cup salted butter
- 4 ounces cream cheese
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon salt
“Instructions
- Bring the chicken broth to a boil in a large pot over high heat.
- Meanwhile, cut the unpeeled potatoes into 1 inch cubes or chunks. Place the potatoes chunks and garlic cloves into the boiling chicken broth and boil until potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes.
- Strain the potatoes from the broth and put the cooked potatoes into a large mixing bowl.
- Add in the butter, cream cheese, buttermilk, and salt. Use a masher to mash the potatoes and other ingredients until everything is melted, combined, and completely mashed,” the recipe states.
I am hopeful these are just as delightful as the very mashed potatoes served at The Keg.
