About a month ago, Blaine and I started watching a relatively new movie released via Amazon Prime titled The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. We got almost halfway through it, but Blaine fell asleep, so I paused it where we left off in hopes of finishing it soon after.
Alas, this thing called life seemed to get in the way of our commitment to finishing this film, and we didn’t end up watching the remaining half until just a few days ago. I was a little worried we would have to restart it because we wouldn’t recall a whole lot of what we already saw, but apparently, our memories are working better than we assumed.
Blaine and I absolutely loved this movie. Believe it or not, it is based on the very true story involving Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of Britain at the time, to collaborate with a literal group of criminals in an attempt to eradicate Hitler’s German U-boats during the Second World War. These U-boats, at the time, were prohibiting the U.S. army from engaging in the war because they were not able to cross the sea alive, hence why they needed to be forcibly removed.
Starring Henry Cavill as Gus-March Phillips; Eiza Gonzalez as Marjorie Stewart; Alan Ritchson as Anders Lassen; Alex Pettyfer as Geoffrey Appleyard/Apple; Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Henry Haynes; Henry Golding as Freddy Alvarez; and Babs Olusanmokun as Mr. Heron, this group is responsible for taking on an unsanctioned, unauthorized mission of extreme danger and risk to prevent Hitler and Nazi Germany from winning the war.
This film is witty, exciting, action-packed and incredibly enticing. I couldn’t even garner Blaine’s attention when we were watching it because he was so enthralled by what he was seeing, and I imagine most folks will have the same reaction to this marvellous movie. Give it a watch.
