I consider grilled cheese, as a meal, to equate to macaroni and cheese, as a meal, when you’re in your adult years. I’m not exactly sure why, but it seems as though social norms have encouraged us to associate specific foods and dishes with childhood, and I’m simply not a fan; there is absolutely no reason to feel ashamed or embarrassed over enjoying a dish as an adult to the same extent you did as a child, and grilled cheese is no exception to this ridiculous ideology.
Obviously, there is the classic grilled cheese we all know and enjoy. And as much as I support the notion of leaving a good thing alone, I have managed to create a grilled cheese sandwich that blew my mind, and I’m hoping it has the same effect on you. Check it out.
Lauren’s Grilled Cheese
You will need (to create one glorious sandwich):
- Two slices of your choice of bread (I like using sourdough)
- One tbsp of olive oil
- Two tbsp of minced garlic and onion, combined
- Salt and pepper
- One tbsp of butter or olive oil (again)
- Two slices of cheddar cheese
- One tbsp of Boursin Herb and Garlic cheese
- A drizzle of hot sauce or hot peppers
- Two sliced pickles
- One tbsp of ketchup
Begin by warming a frying pan with your olive oil. Once the pan is warm, add in your onion and garlic mix and salt and pepper. Once the garlic and onion begin to brown, remove from the pan.
Next, either slather your bread with butter or olive oil, then layer your cheddar on one piece and spread your Boursin on the other. Sprinkle on your onion and garlic and your hot sauce or hot peppers.
Place your sandwich in the frying pan and cook each side until nice and toasty and the cheese has started to melt. Once it’s cooked, remove it from the pan, throw your pickles on, and enjoy with some ketchup.
