Have you had Pizza Spring Rolls?

While grocery shopping a few days ago, my eyes spotted an item that I normally likely would not buy. The item in question was pizza spring rolls; the only reason I even glanced in their direction was because they were on sale, and upon further inspection, and recognizing a great price, I deemed them consumable and figured Blaine and I would try them out for dinner one evening.

I think Blaine could eat pizza every day for the remainder of his life and he wouldn’t get sick of it. Truly.

I wasn’t entirely sure how pizza spring rolls would taste, and after cooking them in the air fryer, Blaine and I agreed they were fantastic. I wanted to see if I could find a recipe to make these at home, and while the following one from tasteofhome.com is titled Pizza Egg Rolls, I figure it’s close enough.

“Ingredients

  • 4 cups shredded pizza cheese blend or part-skim mozzarella cheese
  • 1 pound bulk Italian sausage, cooked and drained
  • 2 packages (3 ounces each) sliced pepperoni, chopped
  • 1 medium green pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 medium sweet red pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 jars (14 ounces each) pizza sauce
  • 32 egg roll wrappers
  • Oil for frying
  • Additional pizza sauce for dipping, warmed, optional

“Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the cheese, sausage, pepperoni, peppers and onion. Stir in pizza sauce until combined. Place about 1/4 cup filling in the center of each egg roll wrapper. Fold bottom corner over filling; fold sides toward center over filling. Moisten remaining corner with water and roll up tightly to seal.
  2. In a Dutch oven or deep cast-iron skillet, heat 1-2 in. of oil to 375°. Fry pizza rolls until golden brown, 1-2 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. If desired, serve with additional pizza sauce,” the recipe states.

Would you be willing to try these?
