Did you know this about melatonin?

Plenty of people make use of melatonin as a sleep aid, myself included. When I was a child, I had zero issues pertaining to sleep, whether it be falling asleep or staying asleep. In my adult years, I can’t say my sleep is poor in general, because it isn’t; rather, there are some nights in which I have a hell of a time falling asleep, and others in which I can’t seem to stay asleep no matter my efforts, meaning I’m waking up every hour all night.

I ended up biting the bullet and purchasing some melatonin gummies to improve my sleep, and, thankfully, they did. What I was unaware of, however, is that melatonin is NOT something that should be used for a prolonged period of time, and while it is possible I’m an ignorant idiot, I suspect there are other people who are unaware of this, too.

Based on the information I read via hopkinsmedicine.org, melatonin is fine to take temporarily, meaning for a couple of months or so. If after using some sort of melatonin supplement for this period of time you’re still struggling with sleep, it’s best to consult with your physician to establish a better alternative.

Meanwhile, I’ve been using melatonin gummies before bed for roughly one year now, and never in my life have I heard that it is not something to take long-term. The only reason I even came to this realization is courtesy of a gal pal sharing a Reel to her Instagram story; in the Reel, a woman is explaining how melatonin is not intended to be used for more than a couple of months, and after hearing her words, I hit up Google to verify the validity of her statement.

You can imagine my surprise when I read she is correct.

The more you know, people!!
