I would wager that many people would agree with me when I say that most days there doesn’t seem to be nearly enough hours in the day. Tasks and responsibilities pile up, and oftentimes, despite our best efforts, our to-do list seems to be infinite and only expanding, while our list of tasks we completed becomes shorter and shorter.
I’ve contemplated the fact that if we as humans didn’t require sleep we would arguably be a hell of a lot more productive, but, alas, it’s our nature.
I have a little trick I like to make use of when I’m crunched for time and have a lot of things I need to get done. I don’t know if it can really be considered a hack, but if it works for you, feel free to call it whatever you wish.
Sometimes, when we acknowledge we have a lot of small tasks to complete, or a couple of large ones, we become mentally overwhelmed and subconsciously decide we will not be successful in our attempts to get all of them done. This causes us to feel stressed and frustrated, and because we recognize we don’t have large windows of time to be productive, we hold off on completing the job and instead procrastinate. But, what I think a lot of folks don’t necessarily realize is that you can work away at tasks in small increments, when time permits, in order to eventually finalize the task. For example, I have a workout I do daily. I’ve broken my exercises up into three main categories – arms, abs and legs/gluts. The entire workout takes me roughly 40 minutes to get through, and while I certainly prefer to complete it all at once, some days I can’t. So, as opposed to banishing the thought of working out entirely, I’ll do arms in the morning, followed by legs and abs later on in the day when I have some more time.
You can still complete tasks and jobs when you work away at them in smaller segments of time. Believe me.
