Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup … lava cake?!

From time to time I do myself a solid and explore convenience stores in search of new and exciting takes on the common chocolate bar. Is this a bit of a niche, if not, a bizarre hobby? Perhaps. But, I will say that I have collected a handful of chocolate bar special editions over the years that have absolutely been worth the search.

Whilst in Brantford a few evenings ago with Blaine, I told him I wanted to stop at a variety store I hadn’t yet visited to collect and forage. Blaine is well aware of my chocolate bar hunts, so, as per usual, he patiently waited in the truck while I scoured the store like a wee goblin.

I picked up five different chocolate bars; two were funky and three were normal, one standard version being for Blaine. The first quirky one I tried out of the two is called (take a deep breath) the REESE’S Big Cup with Chocolate Lava Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, and yes, it is as ridiculous as it sounds.

Here is a description of the product from hersheyland.com: “Chocolatey. Gooey. Goodness. This REESE’S Chocolate Lava Big Cup features the classic combo of rich peanut butter and creamy milk chocolate, now erupting with a decadent molten chocolatey layer that oozes with every bite.”

Two cups come in one pack, so this bad boy certainly satisfies even the most gluttonous sweet tooth. I’m not going to lie, I figured this thing would be unreal or repulsive, and upon my first bite, I immediately knew it was thankfully the former. I was genuinely surprised by the volume of molten chocolate that quite literally does come oozing out with every bite, and I could have rivalled the likes of Blackbeard by the time I finished devouring the little guy and had chocolate smeared all over my face like an infant.

If you ever spot these guys in a convenience store, do yourself, but perhaps not your insulin levels, a favour and indulge.
