Periodically, via my social media feeds, clips of a woman discussing famous historical events in the most dead pan humour approach possible appear, and I always pause to watch them. I never quite knew exactly what the original source of these clips is, up until a recent discovery which has granted me with tremendous happiness.
I was scrolling through Netflix trying to find something new and witty to watch. I came across a series titled Cunk on Earth, and upon seeing the face of the same woman who pops up in social media clips, I instantly knew this show is where these hysterical clips come from, and I decided to watch it immediately.
Blaine was asleep on the couch in the other room, and I was quite literally laughing so hard, and so loud, that I woke him up. He came into the room I was in to see what had me cackling, and soon enough, he was laughing rather hard, too.
Here is a brief description of the show from imdb.com: “(Cunk on Earth) follows Philomena Cunk as she comically tells the story of our greatest inventions and asks experts hard-hitting questions about humanity’s progress.”
Not only is this woman’s narration some of the most random and bizarre humour I’ve ever encountered (in the best possible way), but her approach to interviews with actual historical experts is one of the best components of the show. Watching these experts try to determine if this woman is entirely off her rocker is a captivating experience, and she never breaks character.
Diane Morgan is the comedic genius in question, posing as Philomena Cunk, and I wish I found this gem of a woman, and show, sooner. But, I am very pleased I did come across it when I did, and I am very much looking forward to watching more Cunk on Earth.
