I’ve been using beef tallow as a moisturizer for my face for a few months now. The specific product I use is called For the Face and it is made by Tallow Twins, two sisters who are local to me that I’ve known my entire life.
I will be transparent and admit I was very apprehensive about trying beef tallow out as a face product. I had heard numerous wonderful things from people who use it as a moisturizer, but because I’ve dealt with acne for a solid 15 years of my life, I was quite worried that beef fat would only make my skin worse. I figured it would clog my pores and break me out, but, thankfully, this is not the case with the For the Face product I use as it is made with non-comedogenic ingredients.
Lately, however, I have been seeing quite a few reviews and posts via social media shitting all over beef tallow and advising folks not to use it on their face. I watched one or two, because I was a little caught off-guard but simultaneously intrigued since I use the stuff myself, and I have come to one conclusion about anyone swearing off beef tallow – they don’t want anyone using it because it is so effective.
I know that sounds a little funky, but hear me out. Most of the individuals criticizing beef tallow are influences involved in the beauty world. They likely have been spewing misinformation about beef tallow as a skin product because they (a) don’t want their current brands to drop them if they make the switch and go all-natural, and (b) they want to ensure the cosmetic industry remains booming and does not take a serious hit from people switching to beef tallow as their primary skincare product.
This is my own theory, but it kind of makes you wonder, no?
