So, does oil pulling actually work?

I wrote a post a short while ago discussing something known as oil pulling. I had never heard of it prior to a friend telling me about it, and because my teeth have taken a bit of a hit with my health over the past year, I was more than willing to try just about anything to reduce cavities and staining.

I purchased some coconut oil to try oil pulling, as it is the most recommended type of oil to use, and as of now, I think I’ve been doing it daily for roughly one month. I put approximately one tablespoon of coconut oil in my mouth, allow it to melt, and swish it around in my mouth for 20 minutes. Once the allotted 20 minutes have passed, I spit the oil out into the garbage (do NOT spit it down your sink because it will wreak havoc on your plumbing) and brush my teeth.

Ideally, I probably should have taken some photos of my teeth before I started oil pulling to monitor the progress as realistically as possible, but, to be entirely honest, I didn’t because I was far from happy with how my teeth looked. As of now, however, my teeth have undoubtedly improved in terms of their staining and discolouration, and my husband has noticed a difference, too.

I am not one to gatekeep, but I didn’t want to share my experiences with anyone until I had given oil pulling a solid shot. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon, and if you’re like me and have a lot of staining or cavities in your teeth, I absolutely recommend trying out oil pulling. I doubt any dentist would recommend it, but hear me when I say it really is effective, and I’m so grateful my friend mentioned it to me.
