If you play contact sports or know someone who does, there is a strong probability you have heard of KT Tape. I know plenty of people who use it, two of my closest friends included, who are also my rugby teammates, and I have observed that folks who use KT Tape tend to stay loyal to the product.
I’ve been curious to know more about this stuff and perhaps try it out myself, and while picking up a few things from my local pharmacy the other day, I saw that the selection of KT Tape they carry was on sale. I grabbed a role to give it a try, and while I know I need to practice applying the stuff a bit more, so far, I am impressed.
I purchased the Pro Extreme version because I plan to wear it while playing rugby and figured I could benefit from the heavy-duty model. Here is a descriptive blurb of the particular version I bought, I pulled from amazon.ca:
“Extreme support: 100% synthetic performance fibers are fast-drying, water resistant and provide superior strength and support; Stronger elastic core delivers longer support for muscles, joints and tendons than cotton
“Precut for convenience: Comes in 10-inch, precut strips so you can easily apply KT Tape right out of the box; contains 150 precut strips that are 10 inches long and 2 inches wide
“Next level durability: Wear in the shower, pool or while riding waves at the beach; Extra-strength adhesive will remain in place for 4-7 days; Rounded corners keep tape from catching clothing and pulling up
“Easy and versatile application: Easily self-apply KT Tape for back, knee and shoulder pain, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow and much more; Cut strips into smaller widths or lengths when you need a more personalized fit
“Good to your skin: KT products are hypoallergenic, rubber- and latex-free; Developed to reduce allergic reaction triggers; Safe for most skin-types, but we recommend testing a small piece if you’re prone to irritations,” the web page states.
I hyper-extended my knee in my last rugby game and watched a YouTube tutorial for applying KT Tape for this exact injury. Again, I’m trying to get the hang of it, but I think with some practice I’ll improve, and I’m looking forward to seeing how well this stuff supports my knee.
