Broken toe? Read this

I’ve been known to not be the greatest at paying attention to my surroundings. I’ve garnered a number of injuries over the years that I don’t think anyone would be able to achieve (that is not a brag), thanks to being inattentive, and seeing as I work on a farm, this isn’t exactly the best combination.

A few days ago, I was blowing off our lawnmower after using it because the rad tends to get plugged up and causes the machine to overheat. I always blow it off outside of my dad’s shop, where the air compressor is located, and have been well aware of the telehandler attachment lying right out front on the ground for some time now. Upon finishing cleaning the mower out, I went into the shop, put everything back in its place, and came out of there like a bat out of hell because I was finished and wanted to get home to start cooking dinner. I managed to entirely overlook the massive spike attachment lying before me, collided with it, and somehow managed to stay upright, though I absolutely busted one of my toes in the process as I was wearing Crocs.

I knew my toe was broken before I even looked at it, thanks to the intense pain radiating from the area, and also because I’ve broken a number of toes at this point and have become familiar with the sensation.

Please don’t waste your time and the time of medical professionals and go to the emergency room for a broken toe. They won’t do anything, and your best bet is ice and tape at home, unless your toe is positively mangled and beyond recognition, at which point an emergency room might be your best bet.

Broken toes are a bitch, but they’re absolutely manageable.
