It isn’t too often that I manage to compose a personal recipe, but every now and then I surprise myself and do just that. Are my recipes of the same quality as those you might find on a food blog online? No, but that’s okay with me, seeing as I am not here trying to impress anyone aside from my own taste buds.
I love Asian cuisine, and a few nights ago, after I had figured out what to make for my husband, I realized I had the rare opportunity of making something for myself that he doesn’t like. I checked to see what I had available, and upon finding some dumplings and udon noodles, I acknowledged that I didn’t have anything ready to serve as a sauce. I did have peanut butter and some garlic hoisin sauce, and after a quick check with Google to determine that these two substances do, in fact, jive with one another, I tried my hand at making some homemade peanut sauce.
The entire creation turned out better than I initially anticipated, and because it was so simple and quick, I wanted to share it with all of you.
Lauren’s dumplings and udon noodles with peanut sauce
Ingredients (for one person)
- A third of a bag of frozen dumplings, whichever flavour you prefer (I used pork and leek)
- One and a half packages of store-bought udon noodles
- One tbsp of peanut butter
- One tbsp of garlic hoisin sauce
- A healthy amount of garlic powder
- Salt and pepper
- One tbsp of finely chopped green onions
Directions:
Beign by cooking your dumplings, and feel free to do so however you prefer. Some folks like pan-fried dumplings, whereas others like boiled, so pick your poison.
While your dumplings are cooking, cook your udon noodles in some boiling water for a couple of minutes. Once the noodles separate and float, they’re done, so go ahead and drain the water and set them aside.
In a small bowl, combine your peanut butter, hoisin sauce, garlic powder and salt and pepper. Add a tiny bit of water and microwave for about 45 seconds until everything is melted, and mix together well.
Your dumplings should be cooked by now, so add them to the same bowl your noodles are in, then the sauce, and mix together thoroughly. Top with green onions, and enjoy a quick and fuss-free dinner.
