How about some Skier’s Skillet for breakfast?

Anytime I dedicate a blog post to a recipe, you can count on two things: the first being that I wasn’t able to come up with a somewhat interesting topic to write about, so I therefore resorted to sharing a recipe; the second being that I try my best to at least share recipes that are enticing in one way or another.

While scrolling through some recipes, trying to determine which one to share today, I came across one I have never heard of before called Skier’s Skillet. Naturally, I was intrigued, and upon further inspection, I realized that not only does this recipe sound unique and tasty, but additionally, it doesn’t require a ton of work or ingredients. Check out this recipe for Skier’s Skillet from tasteofhome.com.

“Skier’s Skillet

“Ingredients

  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package (12 ounces) pork sausage links
  • 5 medium apples, (about 1-1/4 pounds), peeled and quartered
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

“Directions

  1. In a heavy 12-in. cast-iron or other ovenproof skillet, cook sausages over medium-high heat, turning occasionally, about 10 minutes; drain. Add apple wedges. Sprinkle with brown sugar, lemon juice and salt. Cover and cook over medium heat for 10-15 minutes or until apples are tender and sausages are fully cooked,” the recipe explains.

I’m not entirely sure as to what the reasoning behind the name of this dish is, but seeing as skiing is a rather physical activity, I like to think the name of this skillet recipe refers to the heartiness of the dish. I could be completely and entirely wrong, but I don’t think my interpretation of the name is a huge shot in the dark, either.

Plenty of people enjoy the taste of sweet sausage as a breakfast food, so the combination of pork and apples in this recipe should appeal to the masses.
