Pizza is arguably one of those foods that just about the entire world population enjoys. I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say they don’t like pizza, and if I did, I certainly would not tell my husband because the man bleeds pizza. We always joke that if we weren’t married, he would probably start to morph into a pizza because he would eat it in copious amounts as a single man.
I wouldn’t say I have a favourite kind of pizza, but I do enjoy more toppings than Blaine does. Blaine enjoys pepperoni and cheese, and nothing else, whereas I like to dabble with veggies here and there, some examples being mushrooms, onions, hot peppers and olives.
Judge me all you want. It’s my mouth.
In all of the years of consuming pizza before meeting Blaine, I ate it as is – with tomato sauce and cheese. When I started dating Blaine, he informed me that when he orders pizza, he has a special request; he asks that the pie be coated with a blend of half pepperoni sauce and half barbecue sauce, and because I had never heard of anyone doing this before, I was intrigued and had to try.
Needless to say, I haven’t had pizza without barbecue sauce ever since.
I can’t say for certain that every single pizzeria in existence will oblige this request, but Robby’s Pizza in Brantford and in Burford sure does. I’ve told a few people about this marriage of tomato sauce and barbecue sauce and how fantastic it tastes on pizza, and I’ve convinced a number of people to try it, with all of them loving the flavour.
You wouldn’t necessarily think that barbecue sauce pairs well with pizza, but it really does. Consider this your sign to try it out yourself the next time you order a pie.
