Consideration is key

I’ve made mention of the fact that following the COVID-19 pandemic, entitlement seems to be at an all-time high in a general sense. Never before in my life have I dealt with and interacted with such rude and selfish people in a variety of contexts, and it doesn’t seem to be getting better.

Entitlement and consideration, or a lack thereof, correlate with one another in terms of selfishness. At their core, both entitlement and an absence of consideration for others stem from being selfish, and being considerate of others is yet another thing I’ve noticed that has absolutely fallen between the cracks of society in the past few years. Everyone is out for themselves, and how our actions, words and behaviours affect others doesn’t seem to be a second thought anymore.

To provide you with a common and very relatable example, consider the aspect of time. Time is something that is relevant to all of us, and it very much determines our productivity regarding what we are able to accomplish in a given day. Perhaps you have an appointment of some sort, and it’s set for 2pm. You arrive at the appointment on time, perhaps even early, only to sit and wait for 20, 40, or even 60 minutes. Okay, maybe the establishment you’re visiting is short-staffed, or perhaps they had something occur that normally doesn’t, which required additional time and attention. Shit happens, and that’s inevitable. However, this seems to be happening more and more, at just about any given appointment you’re required to attend, and this experience screams that your own time is less significant than someone else’s, and it drives me batshit insane.

Your time is just as pertinent as someone else’s, and it’s inexcusable when our time is continually disrespected and deemed inferior to another’s. Don’t allow someone to insinuate otherwise.
