What do you do to ward off illness? (part one)

These past few weeks have been quite literally plagued with sickness for my family and me. I started to feel not so great about two weeks ago, and rather quickly and ever so generously shared my sickness with my dad. He, in turn, gave it to my sister, who then gave it to my mom. I was just beginning to feel better when my husband, Blaine, fell victim, so none of us are feeling our best at the moment.

I have a few habits I like to exercise whenever I am sick or am feeling some sort of bug come on, and because it is the season of sickness here in Canada throughout the winter months, I’m hoping some of them might be useful to someone else out there who feels as though their head is packed tight with cement.

One thing I truly swear by in terms of warding off illness is oregano oil. My entire family uses it, as does my husband, and while it tastes rather horrid and you’re left with oregano-scented belches for the remainder of the day, this stuff is effective as hell. I take a dropper-full of it, diluted in water, the moment I start to feel myself getting sick, and quite often, it helps to alleviate the severity of the illness. I was a little late to the boat this time around, which is why I think I’ve been sick for as long as I have.

Another tactic I believe helps me to overcome illness sooner than later is sweating. Granted, working up a sweat is often the last thing you feel like doing when you’re ill, but I figure forcing the shit out of my body through sweating and my pores is an effective way to detox myself. You don’t necessarily have to engage in physical activity to sweat, either; if you have access to one, a sauna has the same effect.

Check back tomorrow for part two.
