I know, I know – here we are, discussing yet another one of Kristin Hannah’s books. I’m not sorry about it, if I’m being entirely transparent, and if you’re a fan of Hannah’s writing or have read any of her works, I know you get it. I could boot myself in the shins for waiting so damn long to read her brilliant stories, but better late than never, I suppose.
There isn’t any particular order in which I’m reading her many books, but when I finished On Mystic Lake and was trying to determine which book I would read next, I came across an Instagram Reel featuring a woman ranking her favourite Kristin Hannah texts. I figured her number one choice would be The Nightingale, but, surprisingly, it wasn’t; rather, it was Night Road, so I decided then and there that I’ll be reading it next.
Night Road tells the story of twins Mia and Zach and how their lives drastically change upon meeting a girl named Lexie, who is new to their area and high school. Lexie has lived a rather tumultuous life, so she isn’t expecting grade nine to be a smooth experience, but upon befriending Mia on her first day, and, in turn, Zach, Lexie soon finds herself with two new best friends and discovers their parents are more than willing to welcome Lexie into their own family.
In their senior year of high school, a tragedy occurs, forcing drastic changes in all of their lives. Lexie finds herself at a crossroads, unsure of what her future holds, and struggling to comprehend how her life will ever be the same as it was before the incident with Mia and Zach.
I’m not quite finished yet, but I have a sneaking suspicion this book is going to emotionally ruin me, and I can’t wait. Night Road by Kristin Hannah is absolutely a read, not a rid.
