With so much doom and gloom forcing itself down our throats at any given moment on any given day, thanks to the current state of the world, I thought it might be nice to write a purely positive post in hopes of triggering some honest joy in someone. I don’t think it’s ever been more difficult than it is now to try and maintain a positive or optimistic attitude, and I figure most of us could benefit from a smile or two.
I thought I would compile a list of sorts in the context of small, or little things, that bring me joy. It doesn’t require a tremendous amount of brain power or logic to do so, and I encourage all of you to do the same the next time you’re feeling a little blue.
Some things that bring me joy are:
- Cuddles and snuggles with our sweet pup, Lenny
- That first sip of coffee in the morning
- Falling asleep to heavy rain and/or a thunderstorm
- Spending time with my parents and my sister
- Crawling into a clean, cozy bed with freshly shaven legs
- Falling asleep with damp, clean hair (yes, I know it’s frowned upon to do this)
- Curling up with my critters, in bed, with a good book
- When the first feeling of a ‘high’ hits when smoking marijuana
- Listening to a song you haven’t heard in years that you love and remember every lyric of
- Feeling truly satisfied after a hearty, homemade, family meal
- The smell of dusk on our farm
- The smell of tobacco curing in the kilns (fucking heavenly)
- When a cigarette drag hits just right
- The softness and pleasure of a new hoodie
- Playing a solid round of rugby
- Making a hell of a hit in rugby
- Having dinner with my husband and chatting about our days
- Biting into a perfectly crisp apple
These are just a few, but I’m hoping you get the idea here and feel inspired to make a joy list of your own.
