Remakes: yay or nay?

I have been seeing quite a bit of material via social media platforms as of late regarding the Harry Potter series remake. When I first caught wind of this revival, I wasn’t entirely sure what to think, aside from the fact that I didn’t believe the movies needed to be remade in the first place. They’re fantastic the way they are, and I couldn’t help but figure that so many remakes nowadays are completely unnecessary, and, furthermore, an insult to their original form.

I’ve been trying to gauge what the general public’s stance is toward the Harry Potter reboot, and from what I have observed, people are either absolutely in favour of the remake, or they’re entirely against it. There really is no middle ground.

Personally, I can’t really see the sense in remaking something that was done more than effectively in the first place. In the context of the Harry Potter franchise, things become a bit more personal for me. The Harry Potter books are what prompted me to fall in love with reading and writing, and study English at university, and the movies are also incredibly near and dear to my heart. The original actors in the original Harry Potter movies connected with me, and most viewers, on such a tremendously deep level that I can’t see how an entirely new cast and film remakes will have anywhere near the same impact.

I’m not trying to suggest that the remake won’t be as successful as the original, because it is possible this could happen. Rather, I figure if the original movies are so loved and successful, why can’t we simply leave well enough alone and cherish the version that has already been made?

I haven’t decided whether or not I will watch the remake, but I’m doubtful. It just seems like an insult to the initial films.
