Read of rid: ‘Between Sisters’ by Kristin Hannah

In case anyone is curious, I have decided that it is a personal goal of mine to read all of Kristin Hannah’s works at some point or another. I’ve made mention of wanting to do this in previous posts, but now that I have actually decided, I feel obliged to share the news with all of you.

I also feel as though a bit of context is necessary, because without it, I might be giving the impression I have an unhealthy obsession with her materials.

I’m working my way, currently, through her book titled Between Sisters. I wasn’t sure what it was about before I started to read it, and was comforted in my ignorance by the knowledge that if it’s by Kristin Hannah, I’m probably going to love it.

My suspicions have proven to be accurate.

Between Sisters tells the story of, wait for it, two sisters. Claire, the younger sister, lives a simple life, managing a family-owned campground with her father and her young daughter named Allison. Megan, the older sister, is an extremely established and successful divorce attorney and has zero interest in love and/or marriage as a result of her work. Claire and Megan share the same mother but have different fathers – Claire has a wonderful relationship with her dad, whereas Meag does not know who her father is.

Their mother, a questionably successful actress on daytime television, is more concerned with her next hair appointment than her two children, and, as a result, forced Megan into becoming a mother to Claire when they were young girls. Now that the sisters are grown women, they’re realizing the damage inflicted upon them by their absent mother, as well as the tension and bitterness that has developed between the two of them.

An unfortunate incident brings the two sister together again in a rather unexpected way, and their stories are beautiful. This book is positively a read, and definitely not a rid.
