The beauty of rereading books

I feel as though my blog, as of late, is discussing and providing quite a bit of material in the context of reading. This should not come as a surprise to anyone who knows me personally, but for those of you who don’t, allow me to say that I’m not intentionally dedicating so much content to reading and books; rather, these topics are speaking to me, in a sense, and when my brain provides me with a potential blog post topic, I normally seize the opportunity.

I’m currently rereading the entire Harry Potter series. I think this will be the ninth or tenth time I have read them all, but it has been a long while since my last reread. I don’t believe I have read these books in roughly ten years or so, and rereading them now, all these years later, has been a rather enjoyable experience.

Obviously, when you’ve reread a text as many times as I have, the suspense and mystery of the plot are not so subtle. I could literally recite specific passages from each of the seven books because I’ve read them so many times, but this time around, I’m noticing the emotional effect these books are having on me, specifically the last three – The Order of the Phoenix, The Half-Blood Prince, and The Deathly Hallows. I’ve always said that after the fourth text, and the return of Voldemort in a human body, the tone of the books definitely takes a dark turn, but for some reason, this darkness is really hitting me in the feels this time around. Perhaps this is a result of my being a lot older when reading them currently, and possibly understanding them on a deeper, emotional level, but I’m not mad about it by any means.

If you have a book you thoroughly enjoyed a while ago, consider giving it another read. You might surprise yourself with your reaction.
