I’m not sure if I am alone in this observation, but I truly doubt that I am; is it just me, or does it seem as though each and every time you venture out of your home onto the roadways, you see or experience absolute moronic behaviour coming from other drivers on the road?
Anytime I present this observation to someone I know, they agree. In fact, they more than agree; their enthusiasm that they are not alone in their interpretation of poor drivers seems to validate them, understandably so – it is almost always appreciated to hear that your concerns and complaints are shared by others.
I was having a conversation with my parents on this topic recently, and while they absolutely agreed that drivers these days are worse than ever, we struggled to pinpoint the exact driving force behind it. We were able to determine that many people these days are more selfish than ever before (my theory is that this selfishness stems from the COVID-19 pandemic), and perhaps that’s all there is to it. My mom was inclined to believe that people just don’t care. Whether it be for themselves or others, it seems as though the moment some people enter their vehicle, all regard for their surroundings and fellow drivers is tossed by the wayside.
Reckless driving is not cute, nor is it something that anyone arguably sane would condone. So, why does it seem to be more prevalent than ever before? That’s the question I think a lot of us are pondering, although the answer, and, furthermore, a solution, remains vague.
While an argument can be made to suggest that driving in itself is dangerous, I don’t necessarily think someone’s life should be at risk anytime they venture out onto the roads because of other drivers. What are we doing here, people?
